How to install a closetmaid shelf?

Installing ClosetMaid shelves is a relatively straightforward process. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you through the installation:

Note: The following instructions assume you have already purchased the ClosetMaid shelving system and have all the necessary components and tools ready.

Tools and Materials Needed:

  • ClosetMaid shelving system (including shelves, brackets, and hardware)
  • Level
  • Measuring tape
  • Pencil
  • Drill

Step 1: Planning and Preparation

  1. Measure the space where you want to install the ClosetMaid shelves. Take into account the width, height, and depth you desire for your shelves.
  2. Use a pencil to mark the desired height for your shelves on the walls. Make sure to use a level to ensure that the marks are straight and level.

Step 2: Installing the Hooks

  1. Start by drilling 1/4″ inch holes every 12 inches or less, for the wall hooks. (These are the ones that look like an upward facing claw). Place the hooks into the drilled holes.
  2. Once the hooks are all in place and you’ve checked that they are level, you use a hammer and drive them into the drywall.

Step 3: Installing the Shelves

  1. Place the shelves onto the installed brackets. Ensure they are level and adjust if necessary.
  2. Depending on the specific ClosetMaid system you have, there may be additional hardware or connectors provided to secure the shelves to the brackets. (In our video we already had a side bracket installed. You will install that along with the hooks and make sure it is level before attaching the shelves) Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to properly secure the shelves.

Step 4: Attaching the Support Brackets

  1. Hook the top end of the bracket onto the shelf and mark (using a pencil) where your bracket will attach to on the wall. You should use a level at this point to ensure the shelf is straight.
  2. Once you have your mark, use a 1/4″ drill bit to drill a hole into that mark. Then reattach the support bracket and insert the single anchor/nail combo through it. Use a hammer to drive it into the wall.
  3. Repeat the installation process for each bracket one, ensuring consistent spacing between them.
  4. Clean up any debris or packaging materials.

Congratulations! You have successfully installed your ClosetMaid shelves. Now you can organize and display your items with ease.

Remember, it’s important to always refer to the specific instructions provided by ClosetMaid for your shelving system, as there may be slight variations depending on the model you have purchased.
